Our Classes

Sponge offers award-winning Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Japanese, and German after-school classes, online classes, and private tutoring for kids in the greater Seattle area and the Eastside. Bring our program to your child’s elementary school, so they can discover the world there.

Awards and Certification

We feel like we win awards every day when we hear a child say Ni hao or blow a beso to their teacher. We’re also grateful for the support and recognition of the press and the families in our community.

We have won Red Tricycle’s Totally Awesome Award for Best Language Classes several years in a row. We have also won ParentMap’s Golden Teddy for Passport Ready Language or Art Class, the Golden Teddy for Best After-School and Enrichment Classes and the Golden Teddy for Best Infant and Toddler Classes over multiple years. Seattle Metropolitan Magazine gave us their Critic’s Pick for Best Foreign Language Classes and Seattle Weekly awarded us Best Kiddie Language School.

Sponge is a minority and woman owned business enterprise.

Programs

All of our classes are designed to be engaging and effective. We think the best way to learn a language is to be immersed in it and having fun. That fun is age dependent—meaning peek-a-boo for the infants and drama and art for the big kids.

  • Just Kids: 3-5 Years

At this stage, kids are mastering their native language–irregular rules and all. They are picking up new vocabulary and ways to express themselves, and they naturally use these skills with their second language, too. ...

  • Elementary School: K-5th Grades

"Learning a language is not just learning grammar and vocabulary…It is learning how to function in another culture, how to know a new community from the inside out." (MLA, 2003) Our Sponge elementary program has...

  • Great focus on the language for young ones! The immersion approach is very important to us. It is lots of fun for both kids and parents. The kids really absorb the material and the parents learn too!
