Discover the world through language from the comfort of your home!  Join us for Sponge Online Classes in Spanish, Mandarin, French and Japanese. Designed for elementary age kids, our weekly instructor-led online classes offer an interactive and immersive environment for language learning. These fun classes will be supplemented by videos and online content to enable students to continue exploring the language and themes they learn in class. We hope to share our passion for language and culture to children and their families across the country!

Based on the engaging and research-driven curriculum used in our centers and Elementary School Programs, the online class is geared for kids with zero to limited exposure to the target language.

Registration is now open for Sponge elementary school level FALL online classes and school-specific language classes! Join us for weekly Spanish, Mandarin, French, and Japanese classes. Classes run through mid-Sept to December.

For more advanced learners, we recommend tutoring so we can customize the curriculum based on your language needs and goals.

Try as we might, sometimes even our extensive class offerings simply can’t meet the scheduling needs of busy parents and children!

Or perhaps your child is an advanced language learner in need of customized language instruction.

For such situations, we now offer private classes and 1:1 tutoring tailored to your needs.

For in-person tutoring, we have the following packages:

General in-person tutoring:

General tutoring is delivered using the Sponge curriculum. It is suitable for students who are unable to attend a regular class or prefer to have a private class. Course books are included in the packages. Progress evaluations are available as an add-on item.

• starting from $579 for 10 hours (includes one printed course book)
• starting from $1099 for 20 hours (includes up to two printed course books)

Custom in-person tutoring:

Custom tutoring is for appropriate for student that have specific objectives to meet (e.g. advanced language skills such as reading/writing, test prep, class prep, etc.). Custom tutoring may use material from our existing curriculum and such material will be included free of charge. Any supplementary books must be purchased separately. Formal evaluation of progress is included in the packages.

• starting from $645 for 10 hours (includes end of session evaluation)
• starting from $1190 for 20 hours (includes end of session evaluation)

Being immersed in language all week is one of the best ways to learn. It’s like traveling to another country and back in a day.

What do we do? We play games, cook, do arts and crafts, act out skits, play sports and sing. We have lots of fun–all in language.

What do we learn? Each day our campers build listening and speaking skills, develop language-learning strategies, and broaden their understanding of the world through using language in fun contexts.

Who leads the camp? Our camp leaders are dynamic, native-quality speaking teachers with lots of teaching experience. Many of them have Masters in Education degrees.

Who are the campers? Our campers are Pre-K through 2nd graders.  We’ve had brand new learners and kids from immersion programs join us.  We group kids according to age and ability. With a small number of kids, our teachers can tailor appropriately.

Our Sponge elementary program has 3 goals:

1. Build communication skills,
2. Develop language-learning strategies, and
3. Broaden students’ understanding of the world

We make it fun with games, drama, crafts and songs.  And, we stay in the target language to optimize our learning.

Sponge elementary curriculum is currently being used under license by Mercer Island School District to teach Spanish to over 2000 students weekly across all their elementary school World Languages Program. More details here. And here’s a short video about the MISD Spanish World Languages Program.

This year, we are happy to announce several new components to our curriculum:

• Online Portal  – Students will have access to our new, interactive online portal to practice language skills at home!
• Unit Stories – Each Sponge unit brings together the language learned into context through a fun story. Check out the Sponge Young Language Learner Series available for purchase at Sponge Store.
• Final Projects  – Introducing final projects for each unit! Each project uses a fun cultural theme to incorporate and reinforce language learned in the unit
• Activity Book  – Each student will have an Activity Book to help practice language  in class as well as at home.
• Parent Coordinator  – Interested in volunteering to help with the class? Sponge now offers a special Parent Coordinator rate (one/class).

At this stage, kids are mastering their native language–irregular rules and all. They are picking up new vocabulary and ways to express themselves, and they naturally use these skills with their second language, too.

Our classes are designed for kids who are ready for independent learning. We play games, do crafts, sing and move–all in language. Our curriculum focuses on practical everyday language with new, fun units every 5 weeks. We include take-home materials for parents.

From the time they’re born, babies are learning language–naturally! The youngest brains are primed to learn, and our native-speaking teachers immerse them in their language and culture. *

The great news for parents–our curriculum is based on the communicative approach, so you’ll be taking home language and expressions, and learning more about culture, too.

Classes are 55 minutes long. We play, sing, dance and explore all in language for the first 50 minutes. The last 5 minutes provide an opportunity for questions and discussion in English.
